Abacus Calculator
Computers were made for calculating numbers. The Abacus was one of the first portable calculators. There are black beads inside of the sicks. One side goes horizontal and one side goes vertical. Each row represents a diffident number such as, 10's 100's 1000's 10,000's etc... Moving the beads around will help you calculate your problem. Also, kids in North Korea and other countries teachers encourage them to still use Abacus calculators.
Calculators Antikythera
The Antikythera is a Greek astronomical calculator. This was used for calculating an eclipse, Predict motions of the planets and plan for the next Olympic games. The Antikythera was found by Greek sponge divers, in 1901 The Antikythera looks like an old ancient clock.
Punch Cards
Punch cards can hold any kind of information. The punch cards were made for people because there was no such thing as computers. Punch cards lasted around 40 to 50 years until computers started holding information. The punch card converts human information into computer information.
Nordsieck
The Nordsieck is used for analyzing things. Solving things like velocity, speed and weight. Also, used for modeling climate This device was electronic and very easy to learn. The Nordieck didn't use much power. How does it work you ask? Well firstly, it depends on units and each unit is a different equation.
Eniac
This is called the electronic numerical Integrator computer. This machine solves different types of equations such as, equations with changing variables. For example, (x and y) The Eniac was used in the war. This Eniac solved war problems that no one else could solve. The Eniac solved questions like how do you shoot someone 15,000 meters to the left and 900 yards up. The Eniac was made to solve problems like that.
Univac
The UNIVAC was one of the first computers. The UNIVAC was designed so perfectly that it couldn't make a mistake. The government started to use the UNIVAC for commercial purposes and business purposes.
Sage
The word SAGE stands for Semi-Automatic Ground Environment. The SAGE was made in the United States so they couldn't be attacked from airspace. It was to protect cities or foreign planes would drop atomic bombs on our cities. SAGE wasn't only in the United States it was also in Canada. The SAGE was running full time 7 days a week and 365 days around. There was no possibility of the SAGE shutting down.
Norden Bombsight
The Norden Bombsight was used to test bombs. This place was guarded by the US Navy. This place was private. But, in the winter the Norden Bombsight was leaked and everyone knew what it was. The Norden Bombsight had amazing accuracy. The Bombsight could control fast and high speeds.
IBM 360
The IBM 360 spent 5 Billion Dollars to make a computer. By 1960 the IBM company was very successful Every computer, they made had the exact same design and software. Making new computers fixed problems for them. If one computer failed, they wouldn't have to worry because they had many more where that came from.
Ramac
RAMAC stands for Random Access method of Accounting and control. RAMAC was the worlds first computer disk drive. This device was invented in San Jose. RAMAC could find what you are looking for less than a second. Otherwise with reel tape, disks could take some time to find. RAMAC was a prototype which people thought that it wouldn't work. But, later on RAMAC wasn't only a prototype. It was used in almost every single computer.
