Generation 1:
In 1950, to program something you had to use machines and use their languages to program something. The Generation 1 computers were not available to normal people. For example the only people who had access to the Military, scientists who had to research for more advanced computer programming and Engineers to help with the programming. People who didn't own computers weren't that interested as much as the Engineers, Scientists and the Military. Out of these three people no one had the desire to make a digital computer. The size of the Generation computers were not the normal size. The Abacus is a form of a calculator. The black ball around the stick represent numbers. For example, the first row of represents the 10's place, the second row is 100's place, the third row is 1000's etc... moving the black balls side to side will add to your 10's or 1000's. For example, take the number 1000's allowing to move the black ball to the right will make your total 1001, going back two spaces will allow the number to change and you number would be 999. Mr. Kiyoshi Mastizaki won 4 times out of 5 using the Abacus calculator. Japanese students are taught to use Abacus calculators and are taught to remember it. UNIVAC started to gain fame when they won for using the Abacus calculator and people round the world saw that the Abacus calculator actually worked.
